40th Anniversary Exhibition Opens Friday, August 18 through Saturday, September 16
The Crary Art Gallery will celebrate its 40th anniversary in grand style, filling the entire museum with the finest works from its Permanent Collection, much of which has not been on display for years. This excellent overview includes art that Gene Walker Crary and C.J. Crary had either produced (paintings and photos) or collected in their long lives. Visitors will be treated to some of the best examples of Pratt Institute-trained Gene's figurative, still life, and landscape paintings, as well as many of C.J.'s best award-winning black-and-white photographs.
Here are just some highlights of the art that the Crarys collected, on display for this celebratory exhibition: prints and photos by important American artists such as Edward S. Curtis, Frank Weston Benson, and Chauncey Foster Ryder; American and European oil paintings mostly in the midcentury modernist/realist vein, including choice works by Arthur Osver, Paul Mommer, Jerry Farnsworth, Andrew Winter, and Chauncey Ryder; also, a special collection of woodblock prints by Hiroshige and Kunisada, among other historical Japanese artists. Sculptures by Marion Sanford, on long-term loan from the Historical Society and the Warren Public Library, will be featured along with several paintings from the Crary Home that have never been seen before at the Crary Art Gallery. Please join us in celebrating the wonderful gift to Warren County that is the Crary Art Gallery, and revel in the wonderful art collection its namesakes have shared with all comers, free of charge. |
