What I attempt to capture within each of my paintings is a discovery of place. Not uncommon to most realist artists, our paintings will have stories to tell. Those stories often develop while I am frequently
painting outdoors. There is unmistakable inspiration that occurs when you are painting for hours in a particular location, undisturbed. Learning to choose what needs to be said is the often difficult task. To the casual observer it seems an easy undertaking, the artist knows otherwise. What commands my attention varies from time to time, yet a constant thread connects each painting to the next. I feel the painting is successful when the viewer recognizes the location and feels the same wonder that inspired me. There is a constant battle where light and saturated colors are involved. I love the richness of color that light brings out or attempts to conceal. Fighting to keep the emotions in check helps to minimize making changes. However no good painting results without a few. The end results of blended color and light is what I and many collectors find so appealing. I strive for excellence because of my passion for the subjects and places.
